About
A new Mormon temple is being built in Indianapolis, Indiana. We’d love to share more about why these beautiful temples are constructed, the purposes they serve, how they will enrich and bring light to your community, and how you may walk through one yourself, prior to its being dedicated as a literal House of the Lord. Friends of other faiths have referred to these buildings as Mormon Temples, a reference acquired from a book of scripture which is a second witness of Christ, The Book of Mormon. We prefer to be called Latter-day Saints or members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Indianapolis LDS Temple was announced, as are all temples of Christ in our day, by a living prophet and his two counselors, who together comprise the First Presidency. On October 2, 2010, this temple was announced to the world as one to be constructed for the gathering of the Lord’s faithful members in the Indiana area of the United States, a place for them to receive higher ordinances, or covenant-making rites, to qualify them for the greatest gifts of eternal families and eternal lives.
So-called Mormons, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, believe in a purposeful, deliberate, and joyful life centered on Jesus Christ and motivated by His love and atonement. He lives, and He dwells with us in His temples, and through the gift of the Holy Ghost conferred upon seekers who find Him and His re-established Church on earth. The temple is a place where greater light is given; where God reveals His plan and purposes to us in an instructive, symbolic way, and where families and loved ones are united by God’s authority, rather than man’s, for time and eternity.
We hope you enjoy reading these informative articles about the Indianapolis Temple specifically, and Mormon temples and Mormonism in general. We’ve added a special section called “Mormon Life” which contains reflective articles containing the thoughts of everyday Mormons. These are first-person articles and are the opinions of the writers. If you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and would like to submit your own experiences, we welcome you to do so. Send submissions to submissions@moregoodfoundation.org.
The location of the site for the Indianapolis, Indiana Temple will be the southwest corner of W 116th Street and Spring Mill Road in Carmel, Indiana, a suburb just north of Indianapolis. Please follow the links below for additional information.
